Silsden Town Hall is for the "cultural enrichment of the community"

“This building is not for this generation only but it is intended to go down future generations for the cultural enrichment of the community”.

Those were the remarks of Lord Hothfield who laid the foundation stone for Silsden Town Hall in December 1893. That promise has been kept, and the cultural offer at our Town Hall has never been stronger. With chart-topping artists, immersive theatre, orchestral performances and talks from astronomists and economists, there’s something for everyone. Your continued support for The Friends of Silsden Town Hall, a registered charity, allows us to host activities, classes, arts, culture and heritage for the community. For every fitness class you sweat through, tribute night you dance through and lecture you learn through, you’re keeping the heart of this building beating and allowing it to survive for the next generation to benefit from.

What you're supporting...

This year, over 800 classes and activities took place at the Town Hall, supporting a range of interests and needs from historical fencing to pension advice. Yoga, dance fitness, line dancing, karate and pilates are just a few of the health and fitness classes that take place in the Town Hall each week.

Our Town Hall is also home to Silsden Community Library, a free public library open six days a week, offering all of the services you'd expect plus storytelling sessions and teddy bear picnics for children, jigsaws, audiobooks and a free chess club open to all.

Silsden Local History Group offers research facilities and access to the Town's archive materials, which are kept in the Town Hall. This year, we also opened a permanent history and art exhibition in the building for all to see. This hosts a selection of works by local artists, artefacts from Silsden's industrial past, the trowel used to lay the foundation stone of the building over 130 years ago, and even a letter from the late Queen Elizabeth II. The group also host a range of talks throughout the year and drop-in sessions.

A staggering forty entertainment events took place this year at the Town Hall, with various concerts, comedies and conversations taking place. Plus, the first touring theatre group to visit Silsden as The Telling presented their twist on a Christmas classic, in What the Dickens. Sold-out performances from Kiki Dee, Chantel McGregor and local sisters The Hayleys, stunned music lovers. Meanwhile, comedy from Billy Pearce, Daliso Chaponda and the Noise Next Door entertained more than 600 visitors. Tribute acts, fascinating talks and one of the Teletubbies packed a programme offering something for all ages. In 2025, the Bradford City of Culture year, we can't wait to welcome you back through our doors for another season to remember.
