Activities and Classes

Silsden Town Hall is home to various activities and classes, and has been since it opened over 140 years ago in 1883. Its first classes introduced residents to botany, philosophy, local history and the art of debating. Today, the Town Hall welcomes activities such as line dancing, karate, even fencing. Though, it still stays true to many of the subject areas that were relevant when the building first opened, maintaining local history sessions, dances and occasional art classes to this day.

We welcome enthusiasts to start new sessions, or established groups to operate from our building. Our rooms vary in size, with capacity to host up to 160 visitors per user group. User groups are expected to operate regularly, whether that be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. We offer a discounted hire rate to all groups as regular users of the venue.

Have an idea but don't know where to start? We've partnered with Participate Projects to help hobbyists turn their ambitions into financially stable social enterprises. If you think you know what's missing from our activities and classes list and have an interest in running it, get in touch to find out how Participate Projects can support your venture.

There are some limitations on the type of session we're able to welcome to the venue for safety and insurance purposes. We may also choose to turn away groups that might over saturate the market in any particular activity.

Cultural Events
Cultural Events

Over the past five years, we have developed a good reputation for hosting cultural and entertainment events. Welcome to Yorkshire wrote: "Silsden Town Hall is a fantastic venue to see live music... This is a place with character and history, where you can feel connected to the performance". Since renewing our culture programme in 2023, we have welcomed Kiki Dee, D:Ream, Mick Miller, The Three Degrees, Hal Cruttenden, Edison Lighthouse, Paper Lace, Daliso Chaponda, Black Lace, and so many other incredible headline performers to Silsden. We have also welcomed touring theatre and cinema back to the town for the first time in over 60 years.

Our culture programme is carefully curated by industry experts to ensure a good variety of events, helping to financially support the venue while not overstretching the wonderful volunteers that help to keep this community-run venue going. Because our programme is planned a year in advance, and our resources are limited, we do not allow external ticketed events at the venue.

Our capacity is up to 175, and we aim to sell out every show. If you or the artist you represent would like to be considered for a performance at Silsden Town Hall, our bookers would be happy to hear from you.

Parties, Weddings and Gatherings
Parties, Weddings and Gatherings

Our building has stood at the centre of the town for over 140 years, acting as a meeting place, wedding venue, and everything in between for generations. Those wishing to hire the ballroom or lower hall for parties, weddings, christenings, or other gatherings are welcome to do so. We regularly host this kind of event at the Town Hall for local residents.

We have standard rates for room hire, charged per hour or day. Expected capacity and other requirements, such as use of the bar, stage, and PA system, will incur additional charges, to help us cover staffing and maintenance costs. Please note that the Town Hall does not permit externally ticketed events; it is only available for free, private functions. Availability is subject to existing programme plans and user group hire. We may choose to turn away private hires that we feel we are unable to host to a good standard, or that we feel may challenge the moral responsibilities of this community-run venue.

Accessibility

We are striving to make Silsden Town Hall a venue that is welcoming and accessible for all.

Our venue has a ramp to the front door, and a lift to the first floor, making the whole venue available with step-free access. This excludes a small raised seating area used for concerts.

There are accessible bathrooms and baby changing facilities on both floors.

You can find a breakdown of adaptations for accessibility on each event listing. Please note that our ability to offer these adaptations varies per event.

We operate a carers scheme for our in-house culture programme, which allows accessible seating ticket holders to bring an accompanying adult to assist them without charge. For more information, please contact the venue.

Terms of Hire

Silsden Town Hall is available to hire for all. As an independent charity run by members of our community and for our community, we will always prioritise bookings that benefit the people of Silsden and neighbouring villages. We reserve the right to refuse hire for safety and insurance purposes, and may choose to turn away groups that could over saturate the market for any of our existing long-term user groups.  We may also choose to turn away private hires that we feel we are unable to host to a good standard, or that we feel may challenge the moral responsibilities of the charity, without further explanation. Please note that we do not accept bookings for externally ticketed events.
