Do you know that 2026 has been declared The National Year of Reading?
Our volunteers are already supporting the Department of Education’s campaign to promote the ‘Go All In’ campaign with an aim to help everyone to start reading for pleasure.
You can check out their recent research and surveys done on their website here, highlighting reasons why reading for pleasure is so important for us all. We hope that you will join us in that aim to enrich our ever-growing town.
From national organisations to local groups, politicians to celebrities, schools and individuals, our Library is now part of this national campaign. We would like to invite you to join Silsden Community Library today and take part in reading for pleasure.
Call in to become a member or, if you prefer, join online. Either way, you will be able to access our resources free of charge, as well as the whole of Bradford Council Libraries’ in print and online.
As a member you will also be able to access ebooks and audio books via the BorrowBox app, all free to use.
Since our opening in 2017 as a Community Library, we are committed to promoting reading in our town. You may already be a member and if so you may have taken part in our events over the years. Our Facebook pages will bring you up to date on some of our varied resources and past events.
Perhaps you have some spare time and are looking to volunteer in our town. What better way to do so than in our library? We are welcoming new volunteers all the time, please call in to chat about what it entails and join us.
If you are under 16 please provide your date of birth and your parent or guardian’s contact details.
We will be organising more ‘Go All In’ events in the coming months, with updates posted here on a regular basis.
Go All In: The National Year of Reading
Reading expands minds, builds confidence and fuels creativity. Yet with more distractions and less time, reading for pleasure is in decline across many groups.
The National Year of Reading 2026 is here to change that, by reconnecting reading with everyday culture. It’s not about guilt or obligation; it’s about helping people see that stories, ideas and imagination belong everywhere.
"Instead of asking people to “find time to read”, Go All In brings reading to them, through their passions. It’s about showing that reading isn’t a separate world; it’s the heartbeat of culture itself.
Whatever people are into – sport, music, food, gaming, film, fashion, or creativity – we use it to draw them into reading. By starting with passions, not pressure, we can create a stronger, more connected reading culture across the UK."
