About

Award-winning Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) plays the title role in this razor-sharp reimagining of Molière’s classic dark comedy. Telling the truth isn’t always that simple. Alice, a brilliant novelist, despises the carefully constructed lies of modern society. But the more she challenges those around her, the fiercer the backlash becomes. Soon, she must confront the price of speaking her truth in a world that would rather silence her. Filmed live on stage at the National Theatre, Indhu Rubasingham directs Martin Crimp’s (Cyrano de Bergerac) highly anticipated play.

National Theatre Posters: A Design History
National Theatre Posters: A Design History
Rick Poynor

Hardback

National Theatre Posters: A Design History is written and compiled by design writer Rick Poynor, and offers a comprehensive survey of the theatre’s best posters from the 1960s to the present day.

For more than 50 years, the National Theatre has used posters to promote and give visual expression to the enormous range of productions that it stages. While other major British arts organisations also utilise posters, it would be hard to find in-house relationships with designers as continuous and stable as those seen at the theatre.

What else is on this season?

This season's programme features an unbelievable headline concert. In October, Dervish bring the purest spirit of Ireland straight from the Atlantic to Silsden Town Hall. Later this season, we present National Theatre Live, an intimate evening of song from Danish artist Tim Schou, and the multi-award-winning comedian Alasdair Beckett-King. This season, we’ll also see a Tribute to The Killers, a Tribute to Diana Ross, a Tribute to Elton John, plus Hansel and Gretel: The Pantomime and The Music of the Jersey Boys. We look forward to welcoming you back to our favourite local venue for these fantastic upcoming winter performances.

The Detective Masterclass

In Scandal on the Stage, a playwright collapses on stage, whispering “Murder!” – but the cast all have rock-solid alibis…

Alasdair, a stand-up comedian seen on Mock the Week and Comedy Central Live, as well as the author of the Bonbon series, will show you how to walk, talk and detect like a sleuth. One with a great sense of humour.
